Frequently asked questions

How big is a standard parking space?

In France, a standard car parking space is 2.50 m wide and 5.00 m long under the NF P91-100 standard. Mecagile uses these dimensions as its reference; real spaces vary between car parks.

Are cars getting bigger?

Yes. In our database, the average 2020s car is 8% wider (1.87 m vs 1.73 m) and 14% taller (1.67 m vs 1.47 m) than the average 1980s car, with a 16% larger footprint.

How can I check whether a car fits in my garage?

Choose the “Fits in my garage?” mode, pick a preset or enter your garage's width and length: Mecagile shows the remaining clearance or overflow for each car, mirrors included if you want.

Where do the car dimensions come from?

From public manufacturer data (length, width and height, excluding mirrors). The database is regularly expanded as new models and brands are added.

Is the comparator free?

Yes, fully free and no account required.

How many models and brands are available?

Over 1000 models across more than 60 brands, and the database is regularly growing.
